Haaland or Salah: who has better value in FPL?

Erling Haaland and Mo Salah are the two most expensive players in FPL 24/25 and for good reason. You could make a valid argument for them being the two best players in the league outright. Therefore their value extends to FPL too. This season after two gameweeks, the two players lead the race of total points, with both having 24 points.

It is difficult but not impossible to have both of them in your team. So, if you have to choose just one, which one should you choose?

The case for Haaland is simple. The Danish striker is without any doubt the best striker in the world, by a considerable distance, and also arguably the best FPL asset in the game. He was priced at a record FPL price of £15m and has now risen to £15.1m, thanks to his performances in the first two weeks. The price gap between him and the next batch of strikers is sizeable but so is likely to be the points gap between them, come the end of the season.

In what was a mixed season for him last time out, he still won the Golden Boot and amassed 217 FPL points. The ridiculous 60% ownership that he has is reflective of this. Haaland also plays for Manchester City, who create more chances than anyone else. He also doesn’t have a backup too, so he’s sure to start almost all games.

Mo Salah has been among the best picks in FPL over the last few years and remains one of the strongest FPL assets for 2024/25. He was priced at £12.5m and has risen to £12.6m. At the time of writing, he is in 37.6% of all FPL teams. Despite a slight dip in form compared to previous seasons, he still managed an impressive 200+ points in 2023/24, averaging 6.6 per game. The Egyptian King isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

Salah consistently delivers high shot volume, big chances, and penalty-taking duties. While being considerably cheaper than Haaland is definitely a point in his favour, Liverpool attacking unit isn’t the most convincing outside of him. What happens under new manager Arne Slot needs to be seen too.

Ideally, though, you want to have both of these players on your team by managing your finances elsewhere.
