Pep Guardiola provides Erling Haaland injury update after Man City beat Brighton
Man City hammered Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 at the Amex Stadium in the Premier League on Thursday, April 25. Despite missing Erling Haaland due to injury, they dominated the game and beat the Seagulls comfortably.
Pep Guardiola Shares Erling Haaland Injury Status
Kevin De Bruyne scored his first-ever headed goal in the Premier League in the 17th minute before Phil Foden doubled their lead in the 26th minute. The Englishman added another in the 34th minute before Julian Alvarez completed the scoring at the hour mark.
Man City were without their top goal scorer Erling Haaland, though. The Norwegian striker didn’t feature in their FA Cup semi-final win over Chelsea and missed the Brighton game as well.
After the game, manager Pep Guardiola provided an update on Haaland, saying:
“I prefer to have Erling at my disposal than not to have it. I spoke with him, he says he feels better, I don’t know.”
Man City will hope to have Haaland back soon in the business end of the season as they look to win their fourth Premier League title in a row. They are a point behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand. Haaland has scored 31 goals and provided six assists in 39 games across competitions this season.
Overall, he has scored 83 goals and contributed 15 assists in 92 games since arriving from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
Pep Guardiola believes pressure helping Man City perform better
The Cityzens are looking to win their fourth Premier League title in a row – a feat that has never been achieved before. This time, though, they have tough competition from Arsenal and Liverpool going into the final five games.
Man City are second in the league, one point behind Arsenal with a game in hand. Liverpool, meanwhile, are two points behind City having played one more game.
It appears that the Cityzens and Arsenal will need to be perfect in their remaining games if they are to win the title. After the Brighton win, Pep Guardiola spoke about this pressure, saying:
“We know if we don’t win or draw there won’t be chance to fight until the end. Of course the pressure is there, otherwise we can’t perform like that. Five games left, onto the next one that all I can say.”
Man City will face relegation-battling Nottingham Forest at the City Ground next on Sunday, April 28. Arsenal, meanwhile, will clash against arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby away earlier that day. Liverpool will face West Ham United away on Saturday.
