Erik ten Hag sends message to Marcus Rashford after England omission
Erik ten Hag has urged Marcus Rashford to use the England omission to fuel his form. He wants the Manchester United forward to motivate him to do better and earn his place back.
Speaking to the media ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City, the Manchester United manager stated that he did not see any change in Rashford after the omission. He added that the forward is an intelligent football and said:
“He looks good. That is a career, ups and downs, a down can also give fuel and that is what I see in training, he will be highly motivated. Speak with your feet, highly intelligent, he has had a big career, I’m sure he will get over this and get more goals.”
Ten Hag does not think Manchester City will take things easy on them this weekend. He does not believe that the players will be hungover after the parties following the Premier League win and said:
“No, but it’s the FA Cup final, it is a big event and we are there, even in a season that has not gone our way we are there. We have an opportunity and it’s never been easy but we have to go for it and we will go for it, we have to believe as we did last season as we have done often against good opponents, we play our best football, and I expect that again on Saturday.”
Manchester United will be without Harry Maguire this weekend as the defender is ruled out. There is some good news with Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial making it to the matchday squad.
Marcus Rashford was left out of England squad for EURO 2024
Gareth Southgate named his 30-man provisional squad earlier this week and Marcus Rashford was not in it. He stated that the call was a difficult one but the other players were just better than him this season.
He told the media:
“These are of course difficult calls. You are talking about very good players who have been important in what we’ve done over a number of years. With Marcus, I just feel that other players in that area of the pitch had better seasons. It’s as simple as that.”
England start their EURO 2024 with Serbia in their first match on June 16.
