Will Manchester United sack Erik ten Hag before the end of the season? New report reveals potential timeline
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United future is in doubt
Manchester United won’t sack Erik ten Hag before the end of the season
According to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, Manchester United won’t sack Erik ten Hag before the FA Cup final against Manchester City, United’s final game of the season. The Dutch manager’s future is once again up in the air after the Red Devils suffered a 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace on Monday, May 6.
United are currently eighth in the Premier League and could be set for their worst finish in the Premier League era. Their current worst is a seventh-placed finish under David Moyes in 2013-14. That season, Manchester United scored 64 points, a tally they won’t be able to reach this term. Ten Hag’s side currently have 54 points from 35 matches.
It has been a forgettable season for United as they were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League group stages and also from the Carabao Cup round of 16. Apart from the dismal results, experts have opined that Manchester United lacks a specific style of play and many have called for Ten Hag to be sacked. However, as per the recent report, Ten Hag is set to stay at least until the FA Cup final against City, set to take place on May 25.
Erik ten Hag took charge of Manchester United in 2022 and has so far managed the club for 110 matches, winning 65, drawing 15, and losing 30 of those games. He won the Carabao Cup in his first season at the club and helped them secure a third-placed finish. However, this season, the team’s performances have degraded drastically. United have also suffered from multiple injury issues throughout the course of the season, meaning Ten Hag has rarely had his full squad at his disposal.
Erik ten Hag is confident that he is the right manager for Manchester United
Despite Manchester United‘s tumultuous season, Erik ten Hag remains confident that he is the right man to take the Red Devils forward. He claimed that when all the players are available, United are a much better side than what they have shown in recent matches. Ten Hag said after the Palace defeat (via Fabrizio Romano on X):
“Absolutely, I am the right manager to turn things around. If the right players are available then we have a good squad. But we miss almost our entire backline then we have problems.”
Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has emerged as a top candidate to replace Ten Hag if he is sacked at the end of the season. Tuchel is set to step down as the Bayern manager at the end of the 2023-24 season.
