Erik Ten Hag has named four Man United stars who set standards in training
The Dutch manager has named four players who have set the standards for the Red Devils following United’s 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday afternoon.
First-team players Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Rapahel Varane are the best trainers in the squad according to the former Ajax manager.
Lisandro Martinez has been out for the majority of the campaign and spent three months on the sidelines before returning for the 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Man United’s defensive record has taken a steep decline since the absence of the World Cup winning defender.
Since Lisandro’s return, Man United managed three wins and one draw in four games but the Argentine is set for another spell on the sidelines and will be out for at least two months with ligament damage in his right knee.
“(Raphael) Varane, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez,” Ten Hag tells TNT Sports.
He added: “When he (Martinez) is on the training pitch, he is always on the front foot.”
Former Real Madrid players Casemiro and Raphael Varane are two of the most senior and experienced players in the squad and naturally have a significant influence on the squad.
Casemrio missed the last two months of 2023 with a hamstring injury and returned to action earlier this January. Unfortunately, the Brazilian haven’t been at the standards required to justify his whopping £350,000 per week salary at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes who scored the opening goal against Everton on Saturday became the club’s all-time leading scorer from penalties with 29 conversations, breaking Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record of 28.
The Red Devils currently sit sixth in the league standings and are eight points behind the Champions League qualification stages.
