‘Keep smiling and goals will come,’ Enzo Maresca’s advice to Cole Palmer

The Manchester City talent Cole Palmer did not get any game time under Pep Guardiola and hence both the club and the player decided to part ways after which he joined Chelsea. Unbeknownst to Pep, letting Cole Palmer go was a huge mistake and the 22-year-old forward is showing his immense talent at Chelsea. Cole Palmer is one of the best youngsters in the Premier League and in the world as well.

However, Cole Palmer is going through a rough patch currently in which he has not scored a goal in his previous seven appearances. Even in their 4-0 thrashing of Southampton, Cole Palmer missed quite some easy chances and failed to get on the scoresheet. Cole managed to get seven shots on target with two one-on-one opportunities being quite big. The first one was saved by Southampton keeper Aaron Ramsdale and the second was dragged wide.

This is quite bizarre for Cole since he has scored 14 goals and assisted six times in 27 Premier League appearances in the 2024-2025 Premier League season. Many fans even expected Cole to regain his form against Southampton since they are at the bottom of the league with the worst defensive record this season.

Cole even managed to get a great free-kick attempt on target however even that was saved by Aaron Ramsdale. After the free-kick Cole Palmer was seen smiling which suggests that it is just a dry patch which happens to the best players and he will get back to goalscoring form soon.

Enzo Maresca’s Thoughts On The Cole Palmer Situation

In the post-match conference after Chelsea vs Southampton, Enzo Maresca said, “It is how you react. He is reacting perfectly. He is smiling and he is happy. We have no doubt he will score more goals.” “He’s a human being. All human beings, all big players, all the normal players, big clubs, big managers – we all go through a bad moment.

“Even if he is young, he shared time in a big club and he knows that all the big players go through moments like this.” He has to continue to work, continue to be happy, continue to laugh the way he does.” “It is normal to go through a moment where you struggle to score but it doesn’t matter. Just continue and you are going to score many goals.”
