English Premier League Team of the Week: Game Week 16

Gameweek 16 of the Premier League saw top clubs go head-to-head against each other with some important and massive results in the context of the League Table this season. Here is the list of the best players who showcased their skills on the pitch over the weekend, forming the Premier League Team of The Week for Gameweek 16.

Goalkeeper – Alisson Becker (Liverpool)

The new table toppers, Liverpool were involved in a dramatic game away at Crystal Palace, as Harvey Elliot’s winner in stoppage time handed the three points to the Anfield Reds. Liverpool is now ahead of the likes of Aston Villa, Arsenal, and Manchester City in the table but that wouldn’t have been the case had Alisson Becker not stepped up with brilliant saves against The Eagles, especially the ones against Jefferson Lerma and Joachim Andersen, earning him a place in the Premier League Team of the Week.

Defender – Tosin Adarabioyo (Fulham)

Fulham dominated West Ham United with a massive 5-0 win with Tosin Adarabioyo being their star defender on an eventful night. Tosin scored a goal and was very important in keeping a clean sheet against David Moyes’ West Ham attack.

Bournemouth were involved in a massive upset away at Old Trafford as they defeated Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United with a 3-0 scoreline. Centre Back Marcos Sensei was easily Bournemouth’s best player on the pitch as he scored a goal and led the defense beautifully.

Defender – Diego Carlos (Aston Villa)

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa has been on a roll, now defeating Defending Champions, Manchester City and Arsenal in consecutive game weeks. As Villa defeated Arsenal over the weekend, The Brazilian Centre Back, Diego Carlos proved to be pivotal in controlling the in-form Arsenal attack. Villa were successful in keeping a clean sheet as they ran out 1-0 winners.

Midfielder – Heung-Min Son (Tottenham Hotspur)

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham are finally back to winning ways after staying winless for five consecutive game weeks, and what a way to do so. Defeating Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United 4-1 at home, Tottenham are now fifth in the table with 30 points.

Heung-Min Son was at his absolute best like usual, as he scored a penalty in the 85th minute to make it 4-1 for Spurs. Playing in a different role than usual, Son was incredible in this new Midfielder position under Ange Postecoglou.

Apart from Son, the other top performer from the win against Newcastle on Sunday night is the 21-year-old Pape Matar Sarr. Sarr was incredible throughout the 90 minutes and was able to showcase his skills, by holding the midfield beautifully as Tottenham ran over The Magpies.

Lewis Cook is the second entry into the Premier League Gameweek 16 Team of the Week from Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth side that was rampant in their 3-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Cook was the one to set up the first of Bournemouth’s three goals on the night. He also made a whopping total of 16 ball recoveries, the most by any player in the game.

Midfielder – Andreas Pereira (Fulham)

The second Fulham entry after Tosin Adarabioyo into the Team of the Week is former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira. Pereira had a pretty decent game as Fulham defeated the Hammers, putting five past Lukasz Fabianski’s goal. Andres Pereira made an assist and made six key passes throughout the game.

Midfielder – Bernardo Silva (Manchester City)

The defending Champions managed to have a successful outing away at Kenilworth Road against Luton Town, registering a 2-1 win, breaking a streak of four winless games in the Premier League. Luton managed to take the lead at the end of the first half, but an equalizer from Bernardo Silva and a goal from Jack Grealish just minutes later sealed the victory for Pep Guardiola’s side. Bernardo had a brilliant game throughout the 90 minutes and was important in the second-half comeback.

Forward – Dominik Solanke (AFC Bournemouth)

We have another Bournemouth entry in the Team of the Week list and it’s none other than their star striker, Dominik Solanke. Solanke scored the first of Bournemouth’s three goals in the fifth minute, taking his tally up to 8 goals in the Premier League this season.

Brazilian and Tottenham Hotspur striker, Richarlison is our last entry of the Premier League Team of the Week for Gameweek 16. Richarlison scored a brace against The Magpies as Spurs won the game 4-1 earning his team three important points against a fairly tough opponent.
