English Premier League Latest Standings & Table after GW 18
Gameweek 18 of the 2023/24 season has concluded on the eve of Christmas with a pretty interesting-looking table. The fight continues to intensify in every section of the table, be it the Title Race, the battle to qualify for Europe or the struggle to escape from the relegation zone.
Arsenal remains at the top in points table
Arsenal took on Liverpool at Anfield in a top-of-the-table clash with both teams sharing points after a 1-1 draw at the end of ninety minutes. Meanwhile, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa also drew their game against Sheffield United after an equalizer from Nicolo Zaniolo in the very last minute of stoppage time.
On the other hand, we have Ange Postecglou’s Tottenham who seem to have regained their form after a bad run and have now won three Premier League games in a row, the latest one being a 2-1 win against Everton at home. Tottenham are now back into the top four with 36 points in 18 games.
Moving down the table, we have the defending Champions, Manchester City who had their clash postponed against Brentford due to their participation in the Club World Cup wherein they defeated Brazilian side, Fluminense in the final, adding another trophy to their cabinet. They are set to face Everton in Gameweek 19 at Goodison Park.
The Mid Table Battle
Looking at some of the mid-table teams, it’s been quite a race with several clubs battling out each other to reach the European spots. After Bournemouth’s win against Nottingham Forest and Chelsea’s defeat against Wolves, all three clubs are tied at 22 points each and it would be quite interesting to watch how it all pans out by the end of the season.
The big surprise of the weekend was Luton Town’s emotional and impressive victory against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United after the unfortunate incident that took place with the Hatters’ captain, Tom Lockyer in the previous game week. Andros Townsend’s strike in the 25th minute of the game proved to be the only goal of the game with Rob Edwards’ men defending resiliently throughout the ninety minutes. Luton are now 18th in the table, two points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest with a game in hand.
