English Premier League Latest Standings after Gameweek 14
Gameweek 14 saw many top clubs go head-to-head against each other. Ange Postecglou’s Tottenham took on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium while Newcastle went toe-to-toe against Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United at St. James’ Park.
Many important results could have a massive impact on shaping the League Table as the League progresses in the coming Gameweeks.
Arsenal at the top after Gameweek 14
The top 4 clubs of the current season were involved in some interesting games over the weekend. Both Liverpool and Arsenal were successful in getting the three points from their games against Fulham and Wolves respectively while Manchester City and Aston Villa were held to a draw by Tottenham and Bournemouth respectively.
The Anfield Reds were involved in one of the games of the season as they defeated Fulham 4-3 with two goals in two minutes late in the second half to make a stunning comeback and win the three points. They now stand second in the league table with 31 points.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners were comfortable in getting the three points as they bested Wolves 2-1 at the Emirates stadium. Goals from Bukayo Saka and Odegaard saw Arsenal take an early 2-0 lead. Later on in the second half Marc Cunha was successful in getting a goal back but that was that as they failed to find an equalizer. Arsenal are now two points clear at the top with 33 points in 14 games.
On the other hand, Pep’s City were held to a draw by Ange Postecglou’s Tottenham in a six-goal thriller at the Etihad. Although the game had its moments, it was the final minute of stoppage time that proved to be the talking point of the game.
Referee Simon Hooper, played an advantage for a foul on Erling Haaland in City’s half that put Jack Grealish clean through on goal, but went on to blow the whistle for the foul in the very next second which left the City players fuming, especially Erling Haaland, who was caught arguing with Simon Hooper.
Coming to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, they were involved in a 2-2 draw away at Bournemouth. Ollie Watkins, who has been in great goal-scoring form this season scored the equalizer for the Birmingham-based club in the 90th minute of the game. With 29 points now, Aston Villa are fourth in the Premier League Table after Gameweek 14.
Latest Premier League Standings
Apart from the top four, other clubs were also involved in some interesting games. Newcastle United defeated the Red Devils 1-0 at home going sixth in the table while 10 men Chelsea were successful in defeating De Zerbi’s Brighton 3-2 at Stamford Bridge.
Coming to the bottom of the table, Burnley decimated Sheffield United at home with a 5-0 scoreline while Everton was successful in winning their game away against Nottingham Forest. Dwight McNeil’s goal in the second half proved to be the only goal of the game.
