England vs Slovenia Player Ratings: Mainoo and Palmer Shine Despite Gallagher’s Tough Outing
England and Slovenia have qualified for the next round of the Euro 2024 after a goalless draw at the RheinEnergieStadion. The two sides were poor in the attacking third and relied on each other for the point.
Gareth Southgate’s side dominated with 74% possession, but hardly managed to create any chances. Their best efforts came late in the game through Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, but both were easily dealt a win.
England National Football Team Player Ratings vs Slovenia
GOALKEEPER
Jordan Pickford – 7: Had to make just one save in the game and was hardly troubled by the Slovenian forwards.
DEFENDERS
Kyle Walker – 7.5: The right-back was once again England’s best defender though he was more involved in attack than defence today.
John Stones – 7: Did not put a foot wrong today and came close to scoring in the early stages of the second half. However, his header was easily saved by Oblak.
Marc Guéhi – 6.5: Another decent game for the defender but he gave away a freekick following a clumsy foul. His passing was brilliant and did not have a lot to do in the defensive third.
Kieran Trippier – 7: A much better performance from the make-shift left-back today. Was trying to get up the pitch at all chances, and linked up well with Foden.
MIDFIELDERS
Conor Gallagher – 6: Not a game he would want to remember as his first start in EURO 2024. Hardly made an impact in the game and was mostly isolated.
Declan Rice – 6: Was trying hard to get involved but England’s play was mostly off the wings today. Tried a shot from just inside the box, but it was off-target.
Jude Bellingham – 6.5: Another quiet game for the midfielder today. Did not get a single shot away and was unable to win most of his duels.
FORWARDS
Bukayo Saka – 6: Did not make an impact as needed when England needed him in the first 71 minutes. Was eventually hooked off by Gareth Southgate.
Harry Kane – 6: Another forgettable performance from the England forward. Did manage 5 shots in the first half, but only one was on target.
Phil Foden – 7.5: Much improved performance from the winger and he was getting into the right positions today. Could have scored with his final shot in the 88th minute, but it was easily blocked.
SUBSTITUTES
Cole Palmer – 6
Kobbie Mainoo – 6

Slovenia National Football Team Player Ratings vs England
GOALKEEPER
Jan Oblak – 8: Did not have a lot to do today as the England forward were poor. However, whenever Slovenia needed him, he was present and managed to make three saves to help them get a draw.
DEFENDERS
Žan Karničnik – 6.5: Was trying to drive the attack forward from the right wing, but hardly got any help when needed. Was solid defensively and managed to keep Foden on his toes.
Vanja Drkušić – 7: Won all but one of his duels and had Harry Kane thinking twice before every touch. Was quick off his lines to block shots when needed.
Jaka Bijol – 7: Similar to Drkusic as he was ready to jump ahead and block shots every time England stars were looking to shoot from far. Was not giving Kane and co any space to get their shots away properly.
Erik Janža – 6: While everyone around him was in top form today, the right-back was unable to do much. Saka was isolated and off his mark today or else the English side would have exploited the poor positioning of Janza.
MIDFIELDERS
Petar Stojanović – 7.5: The best player from Slovenia today after Jan Oblak. The right-winger was trying his best to get the team forward but hardly got any help.
Adam Gnezda Čerin – 6.5: Decent effort in the midfield, but not enough to get them going forward. Was able to win back balls, but never managed to release the forwards.
Timi Max Elšnik – 6.5: Similar to Cerin but never got forward as much as his teammate. Did a decent job in the midfield and helped them control Rice and Gallagher.
Jan Mlakar – 6: Not a game he would want to remember. Played nearly 90 minutes, but still managed just 23 touches and 14 passes.
FORWARDS
Andraž Šporar – 6.5: Got two shots away in the game, but none reached Pickford. While one was off-target, the other was easily blocked.
Benjamin Šeško – 7: The only Slovenian player to try and score today. His shot was the only one that Pickford needed to save in the entire match.
