Gareth Southgate’s England will take on South American lions Brazil in an international friendly at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. The Three Lions will look to start their international break with a victory as the English camp regroups for the first time since November when they salvaged a 1-1 draw against North Macedonia.

Brazil will prove to be a good challenge for Gareth Southgate’s England as the country aims to arrive in Germany later this year as a serious contender to win the Euro 2024. As Southgate looks to find his best squad for the summer tournament, a win against the mighty Brazilians could go a long way in boosting the coach’s and the squad’s morale. 

Traveling to England is the Canary Squad, Brazil. Brazil are perhaps one of the strongest sides in the world, but their form has taken a massive hit since the 2022 World Cup. The Brazilians have failed to win a single tie since October.

While the side has been dealing with constant injuries to key players ahead of international breaks, if they wish to win the Copa America in June, they need to return to winning ways soon. A win against England away from home could be the perfect catalyst for Dorival Junior’s Brazil to return to the top.

England:

The Three Lions enter yet another international break with injuries to many key players leading to interesting call-ups. England are currently dealing with a massive headache as many of their important left-backs have been injured. The injuries of Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell have haunted England as they prepare for the Euros. While Chilwell will return to the squad, Shaw has been ruled out for the summer tournament leading to Southgate calling up Liverpool’s Joe Gomez. Gomez is originally a center-back, but this season has been fantastic for Klopp’s Reds at left-back. If he manages to prove himself against Brazil, he will definitely join the side for the tournament in June. 

Striker Ivan Toney was sidelined for a long time due to his betting scandal, but his return to club football has seen him score goals. This seems to have prompted Southgate to call the Brentford striker up for international duty. With Harry Kane expected to arrive at the English camp with an injury, it is likely that Toney will play at least sometime, even if he comes on for talented striker Ollie Watkins.

England regulars Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Kieran Trippier continue to heal from their injuries on the sidelines. Their absence will hurt England, but all of them are likely to make the Euros squad. 

Brazil Squad:

Brazil would’ve liked to enter the international break with their best squad in the final international break prior to the Copa America. Unfortunately for the Canary squad, injuries continue to plague crucial players. Senior defender Marquinhos continues to remain sidelined with his Achilles tendon injury. Meanwhile, in a double whammy in goal, both Ederson and Alisson will be absent for Brazil as both have sustained injuries playing for Man City and Liverpool respectively. Their absence is bound to haunt Brazil. Their injuries have made way for Bento and Rafael to have a shot in goal for Brazil.

A Gabriel Martinelli injury just days before the international break will render him unavailable for Brazil as well. Neymar Jr. will continue to heal on the sidelines as his return in time for Copa America looks more and more unlikely. Brazil will be boosted by the return of Vini Jr and Raphinha. The canary squad will also look to register their first win since October after their latest 0-1 defeat against Argentina in the previous break.
