Endrick failed to surpass Pele’s record with the Brazilian National Team

Endrick Shines, But Pele’s Record Stays Safe

In a recent friendly match between Brazil and the United States Palmeiras striker Endrick had 25 minutes to break a record held by the legendary Pele. But the 1-1 draw saw Endrick’s hopes dashed as he failed to score.

Endrick had been on fire netting goals in three consecutive matches. He scored against England at Wembley. Then against Spain at the Santiago Bernabeu. And against Mexico in a thrilling 3-2 win.

His goal against Mexico put him on par with Pele but he couldn’t find the back of the net against the United States at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. If he had scored Endrick would have been the only Brazilian under 18 to score in four straight international matches. Talk about being so close yet so far!

A Pearl of Great Price: Protecting Young Talent

Brazil’s coach Dorival Junior decided to play it safe with his young star. Before the match, Junior mentioned he didn’t want to put too much pressure on Endrick.

The coach opted to keep Endrick on the bench for most of the game knowing well that he has a gem in his hands. Junior’s strategy is to nurture Endrick without making him the focal point of every match.

So far, Endrick has not started in any of his six appearances for the Brazilian national team making him more of a secret weapon than a front-line striker.

Endrick made his debut for Brazil on November 17, 2023, against Colombia. He also played against Argentina in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Though he didn’t get the start against the United States his future with Brazil looks bright. And with the Copa America around the corner, he will have another shot at surpassing Pele’s record.

Endrick’s 18th birthday is coming up on July 21. Maybe a birthday wish can do the trick next time! After all, they say records are meant to be broken.
