French legend Emmanuel Petit slams Thiago Silva’s wife for Mauricio Pochettino criticism
Former Arsenal and Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit has lambasted Thiago Silva’s wife Isabelle for her reckless social media outburst at Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino following their 4-2 home loss to Wolves in the Premier League.
Belle, an Instagram celebrity and digital influencer, has gained a notorious reputation for being extremely vocal on social media. After watching her husband’s side go down to Wolves on 4 February, she once again whipped up a storm with her rant against Pochettino, saying it’s “time to change”.
It didn’t go down well with the club supporters, and following a backlash, Isabelle backtracked on her words and issued an apology. Now, Petit, a World Cup winner with France in 1998, has criticized the Chelsea WAG for her behavior. Speaking to Betway, the former footballer said:
“This is exactly what happens in modern football. It could be his wife, his brother or someone close to the family. I totally disagree with it. It wasn’t the first time his wife has spoken out and, to be honest, I was unhappy when I saw what she said because it was not the first time. “She did it with Tuchel and with so many other people. Everyone is allowed an opinion but if my wife did it, I would be in trouble in the dressing room with players, staff, management and owners the following day. I can understand that some fans are happy with what she has done but I’m not happy about it, I’m not happy at all.”
Petit further added that while everyone has the right to their opinions, one must be thoughtful before taking aim at the manager of a club, while issuing further condemnation of Isabelle. He said:
“Again, everyone has the freedom to say what they feel but you have to be very careful, especially when you criticize the boss and take a dig at the manager in the public domain like this. I really, really don’t appreciate it. What she has said doesn’t help anyone.”
Silva joined Chelsea in 2020 on a free transfer from PSG and has been a mainstay in their defense ever since, racking up 146 appearances in all competitions, including 105 games in the league. He was an integral part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad that won the Champions League, before lifting the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
