Who Will Referee the El Clasico in La Liga Between Barcelona & Real Madrid?

There was a lot of buzz around the El Clasico referee last time when FC Barcelona faced Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey final. Florentino Perez, the President of Real Madrid, requested a change in the referee the last time FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid took place.

This was due to him believing that the referee at the time was biased towards FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid were allegedly said to not even play the match. However, the match took place and eventually FC Barcelona won the match 3-2 courtesy of a Jules Kounde goal in the 116th minute.

As of now, FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid is set to take place for the fourth and final time this season in a La Liga fixture on 11th May at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

This Clasico fixture will possibly decide who wins the La Liga title this season, since both teams are in contention to win the league. FC Barcelona are in first place with 79 points in 34 games, whereas Real Madrid are in second place with 75 points and have to win the El Clasico if they wants to disrupt FC Barcelona’s lead.

Who is the El Clasico Referee for the La Liga game?

The Spanish soccer federation has announced that Alejandro Hernandez will be the El Clasico referee on 11th May. Alejandro is very experienced and has refereed 434 senior matches in his career, which includes 234 La Liga fixtures. More importantly, Alejandro Hernandez is not new to FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid since he has been a referee in the Clasico in the past for four matches.

This will be his first El Clasico in five years since the last time he was an El Clasico referee was back in 2019 when Ernesto Valverde’s FC Barcelona faced Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

The most notable Clasico, which he has refereed, is the FC Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid win in April 2017 in La Liga. Alejandro Hernandez was the Clasico referee in that fixture, which produced not only a lot of magical moments with Messi scoring an injury-time winner but also a lot of yellow cards.
