Ecuador 0-0 Paraguay: Player ratings as the sides played out a drab stalemate in World Cup qualifier

Ecuador and Paraguay shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier. La Tricolor created the better chances and looked far more dangerous than their rivals, but lacked the cutting edge to make their opportunities count. Credits also go to Paraguayan goalkeeper Gatito Fernandez, who made a series of big saves to keep his side in the match. Paraguay remained in seventh place with 10 points from nine games, whereas Ecuador are up in fourth with 12 points. Here are the player ratings:

Hernan Galindez – 6.5

The Ecuadorian custodian wasn’t tested enough was remained vigilant and on his toes.

Defenders

Felix Torres – 7

Strong in the air and excellent at passing.

Willian Pacho – 7

Demonstrated his aerial prowess that Paraguayan players had no answer to.

Piero Hincapie – 7

Excellent vision and played a key role in regaining possession.

Midfielders

Angelo Preciado – 6

Offered no great shakes at either end.

Alan Franco – 5

Struggled to get involved and misplaces many of his passes too.

Moises Caicedo – 7

Adept at winning back possession with his perfectly-timed interventions.

Pervis Estupinan – 5

Came a cropper in his duels, looked sloppy on the ball, and all his dribble attempts were nipped in the bud too.

Forwards

Gonzalo Plata – 5.5

His dribble attempts didn’t yield much, and lost most of his duels too.

Enner Valencia – 6.5

The forward tested Paraguayan defense with his directness and the desire to score.

Kendry Paez – 5

A complete non-factor in the opening half leading to his substitution at the break.

Substitutes

Alan Minda – 5.5

Couldn’t get involved much.

Jeremy Sarmiento – 4

Was left chasing shadows for much of the time.

Leonardo Campana – 4

Clearly half-hearted and showed no urgency either.

Cristian Ramirez – 5.5

Made two crosses but both went begging.

John Yeboah – 7

Looked dangerous with his prolific dribbling and competed hard for possession.

Manager

Sebastian Beccacece – 6

La Tricolor were the better side here but the lack of cutting edge kept them from winning the game.

Goalkeeper

Gatito Fernandez – 7

He was equal to everything thrown at him by Ecuadorian forwards, making a series of vital saves.

Defenders

Fabian Balbuena – 5.5

Offered no resistance in defense.

Gustavo Gomez – 5

Out of position, lacked pace, and looked hesitant at times too.

Omar Alderete – 6.5

Perhaps the best of the three, as Alderete was dominant in the air and made some vital clearances to ensure everything’s kosher in defense.

Midfielders

Juan Caceres – 6

Tracked back whenever Ecuador looked to attack and made some vital interventions.

Andres Cubas – 5.5

Drifted in and out of the game too often.

Damian Bobadilla – 7

Played a key role in regaining possession and timed his tackles to perfection.

Agustin Sandez – 5.5

The match just whizzed past him.

Forwards

Miguel Almiron – 7

Competed hard for the ball but couldn’t offer much direct threat.

Alex Arce – 6.5

Tremendous work ethic although direct threat was lacking.

Julio Enciso – 5

Cut a forlorn figure on the flanks.

Substitutes

Ramon Sosa – 6

Couldn’t get involved much.

Isidro Pitta – 6

Didn’t see too much of the ball.

Kaku – 5

Was a non-factor for much of the time.

Mathias Villasanti – 4.5

Perhaps the worst substitution of the lot, as Villasanti didn’t really involve himself in the proceedings.

Santiago Arzamendia – 5

No meaningful contribution from him either.

Manager

Gustavo Alfaro – 5

Paraguay looked toothless in attack once again, and his substitutions weren’t inspiring either.
