Liverpool’s Diogo Jota Faces Lengthy Spell on Sidelines with Knee Injury
Liverpool‘s attacking force has taken a hit as Diogo Jota is reportedly set for a two-month absence due to a knee injury sustained during Saturday’s 4-1 Premier League victory over Brentford.
The Portugal international was among the trio of Liverpool starters forced off during the match, with Jota injuring his knee following a challenge from Brentford’s Christian Norgaard.
Manager Jurgen Klopp immediately expressed concerns over the severity of Jota’s injury, fearing it could be worse than initially anticipated.
While initial fears suggested a possible season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, Portuguese outlet Record has reported that Jota has instead suffered a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury. This diagnosis indicates a shorter recovery period, with Jota expected to return to action before the season concludes.
However, Jota is still facing an approximate two-month spell on the sidelines, missing key fixtures including the upcoming EFL Cup final against Chelsea and several Premier League matches, including clashes against Manchester United, Everton, and Manchester City.
Furthermore, Jota’s injury is likely to rule him out of potential Europa League quarter-finals and FA Cup quarter-finals, should Liverpool progress in those competitions.
Despite the setback, Jota’s participation in Euro 2024 for Portugal is not expected to be compromised.
