Dele Alli Injury: Everton will let England midfielder stay for longer despite his contract expiring next month
Dele Alli will have his contract expire with Everton by the end of next month. However, the club decided to let him stay longer as the attacking midfielder is recovering from a groin injury which makes him stay off the pitch for the whole season.
The last time Alli played was when still on the loaning spell with Besiktas in February 2023. He had surgery to heal his hip injury back then. Earlier in January, the former Tottenham Hotspur ace underwent another surgery for his groin.
Dele Alli Injury: Everton “continue to support” the midfielder to recover
Everton released a statement through the director of football, Kevin Thelwell, saying that Alli’s recovery is the club’s priority despite his contract situation. The manager Sean Dyche has also acknowledged this and agreed to give intensive care for the player.
“Dele’s contract is coming to an end, but our medical team will continue to support him while he completes the intensive rehabilitation programme he is currently undergoing following the operation he had earlier this year,” Thelwell said. “Both Sean and I agree it is important we ensure Dele’s rehabilitation is not impacted by his contract situation at such a critical point in his recovery.”
Last month in an interview for SkySports’ The Overlap with Gary Neville, Alli shared his thoughts about the current situation. He admitted to have learned an important lesson following the series of unfortunate events.
“I’ve had to be patient and really learn what patience is,” Alli said via Goal “It’s been a long journey with the [groin] injury. A lot of ups and downs and it’s helped me grow as a person. I’m not thankful to be injured but to have this opportunity to get to know myself.
“I think the pain of the injury is something I can channel when I am back and use it to motivate me. After the interview a lot of people asked me ‘when are you coming back to football’ and they thought I was taking a break. It’s just been an injury problem, one that I’m hopefully getting to the end of. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I’m excited.”
