Crystal Palace 0-1 Liverpool Player Ratings: A tight win for the Scousers allowing to set the tempo of the table early

A quick 3-pass goal secured the top spot for the Reds as we head into the National break soon. This nail-biting Crystal Palace vs Liverpool game in Selhurst Park witnessed a rather magical ball from Tsimikas that got Gakpo going around Munoz. The Dutchman found the incoming Jota who ran past Chalobah and poked it for 0-1.

Crystal Palace almost shocked the traveling fans in the early minute with a quick through ball seen the back of the net by a smart finish over Becker’s shoulders. However, it was ruled offside and sucked the energy off the home crowd. Since then, Palace failed to gain possession until the first-half whistle due to Liverpool’s high press.

Despite of the 0-1 victory, Arne Slot seemed to be the upset manager during the game. The manager seemed to be the most animated in this game at the touchline ever since the start of the season. However, that is not because of the 12.30 PM kickoff.

Here are the player ratings of the match.

Goalkeeper

Alisson Becker (7/10)

Just another day for the Brazilian International. Saved a couple of good chances and proved once again he is the last line of Liverpool’s defence. Received an injury on the second half which forced him to get off.

Defenders

Trent Alexander-Arnold (5.5/10)

Looked for many opportunities to probe the palace with his long-range passing. Almost assisted Diogo Jota from the spot who missed an easy header in the second half.

Ibou Konate (6/10)

Pretty relaxing first half for the Frenchman. However, got busy in the second half as Palace started to take things up a notch.

Virgil Van Dijk (7/10)

A true leader on the pitch, but that was in the second half. The Dutchman had a relaxed first half along with his centre-back partner. Stood firm and led the defense line like a true captain in the second half.

Kostas Tsimikas (5.5/10)

Started a League fixture since the Arsenal game last season when he had a collarbone injury after clashing with Klopp. Seemed to get his confidence back. Played the crucial pass that led to the Jota goal.

Midfielders

Curtis Jones (6.5/10)

Pretty much showed Arne and the fans why he can be trusted in the centre. Looked confident on the ball and comfortable with Ryan and Macca.

Ryan Gravenberch (7/10)

By this point, you can say he is Slot’s enforcer. Led the defensive mid-line like a class just like he’s been doing. Almost assisted Jota with a low cross in the box which the Portuguese failed to convert.

Alexis MacAllister (4.5/10)

A rather disappointing game for the World Cup winner. Seemed to be off his ways. Gave the balls off nonchalantly. However, pressed for the ball well every time.

Forwards

Mo Salah (6.5/10)

Set his own bar too high for himself. Considering that, it was a below-average performance for the Egyptian King. Kept the Palace’s defence worried throughout the game.

Diogo Jota (7.5/10)

A true fox-in-the-box moment for the center forward. Nudged the ball to the back of the net following a smart run in the box. Missed two great chances after that, one from Gravenberch and the other from TAA who crossed the ball from a spot kick for a comfortable header. Missed a chance to assist Luis Diaz in the ending moments of the game.

Cody Gakpo (7/10)

Consistent performance by the Dutchman. Assisted the Jota goal. Looked lively throughout 90 minutes. Made trackbacks early in the game. Good performance.

Substitutions

Andy Robertson (5/10)

Luis Diaz (5.5/10)

Vitezslab Jaros (5.5/10)

Dominik Szoboszlai (5.5/10)

Wataru Endo (5/10)

Manager

Arne Slot (7/10)

Looked very animated. Made the right calls with the substitutions. Seemed worried about Alisson’s injury. A tight win, but he’d have wanted a 2-0 at least.

Goalkeeper

Dean Henderson (5.5/10)

Made a few decent saves apart from the Jota goal. Was sloppy from time to time with the ball.

Defernders

Trevoh Chalobah (5/10)

Completely missed the incoming Jota which led to a goal that gave Liverpool the victory.

Marc Guehi (6/10)

Led the defense line like a true leader. Did nothing major wrong.

Maxence Lacroix (5/10)

Was under too much pressure. gave the ball away to Liverpool which put pressure on his teammates as well.

Daniel Munoz (4/10)

Couldn’t read the pass from Tsimikas and missed the run of Gakpo.

Midfielders

Adam Wharton (5/10)

Looked a little off the game. But he was not alone who was found scattered in the Place’s midfield.

Jefferson Lerma (6/10)

Improved a lot from how he played in the first half. But it was Crystal Palace collectively underperformed in the first half.

Ismalia Sarr (5.5/10)

Put life into the fans as he tested Alisson in the second half. But was sloppy at times.

Forwards

Tyrick Mitchell (5/10)

Couldn’t complete the attack on the final three. Played like a shadow of himself.

Eberechi Eze (6/10)

Was not involved in the game as he typically is. Missed a golden chance to score past the subbed-in keeper Jaros but shot straight at him for a comfortable save.

Eddie Nketiah (4.5/10)

Also missed a chance to score against Alisson. In the field more like a spectator rather than a forward.

Substitutions

Nathaniel Clyne (5/10)

Will Hughes (6.5/10)

Daichi Kamada (5/10)

Jean Phillipe Mateta (6/10)

Manager

Oliver Glasner (5.5/10)
