Crystal Palace 1-1 Chelsea Player Ratings: Jean Philippe Mateta helps Eagles to Share the Spoils in London Derby

Chelsea have dropped points once again, and yet again, they have done it late in the game after losing control. The Blues were on course for a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, but a late goal saw them drawing the match. Cole Palmer gave them the lead early in the match but Nicolas Jackson and Josh Acheampong failed to convert their chances to increase the lead.

Palmer also had an easy chance in the first half but missed the shot completely from yards out. Jean-Philippe Mateta ended his drought against Chelsea and scored a late equalizer for the home side to take a point from the match.

Dean Henderson – 6: Did not have to make a single save today and there was little he could do about the goal as it came through his defender’s legs.

Defenders

Chris Richards – 7: Apart from the goal when Jadon Sancho rinsed him, the defender did really well to keep his side in the match. Never gave Sancho any space to work with today.

Maxence Lacroix – 6.5: Brilliant in dealing with Jackson but was finding it hard to deal with Chelsea players when they were able to ease past him.

Marc Guehi – 6.5: He has been linked with a move to Chelsea this month and it was not the best audition. The Cobham product was getting eased past by Neto and Gusto, with Palmer and Enzo helping them out.

Midfielders

Daniel Munoz – 7.5: He was determined to win the ball and that helped Palace create the chance to get the goal they needed to collect a point from the match.

Cheick Doucoure – 5: Did not get to do much today as Caicedo and Enzo were running rings around him and taking the ball away from him at every chance.

Jefferson Lerma – 6: Similar to Doucoure, but a little better. He was able to close to down Enzo a lot and not give the Argentine a lot of space.

Tyrick Mitchell – 7: The left wing-back was finding it hard to deal with Neto, but he was doing well when he was charging up the pitch.

Isamila Sarr – 6.5: He was not able to do much in the match and never looked like he was getting the ball. A big surprise that he finished the match.

Eberechi Eze – 7: Was finding it hard to get into the game thought he was running round all the time. Took a few shots but his most important contribution was the assist.

Forwards

Jean-Philippe Mateta – 7.5: Tormanted the Chelsea defenders and got the all important goal needed to get them a point from the match.

Daichi Kamada – 6

Edward Nketiah – 6

Manager

Robert Sanchez – 7.5: Pulled off five impressive saves to keep Chelsea in the game. Cannot be blamed for the goal conceded as he was a defensive error.

Defenders

Malo Gusto – 5.5: Never looked comfortable in defence and was involved more in attack. Could have done better with his crosses and passes in the final third.

Josh Acheampong – 8: Chelsea’s best player on the pitch today was the debutant Josh Acheampong. He was brilliant from start to finish and looked confident every time he got the ball.

Levi Colwill – 7: Once again a solid performance from the youngster. He has sealed his place in the starting XI and how!

Marc Cucurella – 7: He was decent once again but just unable to get the ball into the six yard box. He could have shot a couple of times instead of going for the cross.

Midfielders

Moises Caicedo – 7.5: Did way more than what was expected as he was playing a lone CDM today in Maresaca’s new system. He could have easily got an assist but also made a late mistake that could have led to a Palace winner.

Enzo Fernandez – 7: Played the whole match and was involved in getting the ball to his attackers. Just unable to get his shots on target and he did not create much today.

Cole Palmer – 7.5: He was all over the pitch today and it has once again come to a situation where the Blues are unable to do much if he is not creating chances.

Forwards

Pedro Neto – 7: He was trying to get into the right areas and getting the ball into the box. But he was not getting the help he needed.

Nicolas Jackson – 6.5: He had way too many chances to score today but just could not find the back of the net. Should be doing better, and his form dipping would be a concern for Chelsea.

Jadon Sancho – 7.5: Got a brilliant assist and did well to cover up at the back. However, he was not able to do much in the final third today apart from the assist.

Substitutes

Marc Guiu – 6

Noni Madueke – 6

Manager

Enzo Maresca – 7.5: He got a lot of things right today, especially the starting XI, but needs to trust his bench more.
