Crvena Zvezda vs Manchester City Match Preview

Manchester City is set to go up against Crvena Zvezda on matchday 6 of the group stage round of the UEFA Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s City currently are the league leaders of their Champions League group and they will certainly finish the group stages in the same position.

The fate of both the teams has been very different and on paper, there is no competition among the teams. However, this is football and anything can happen in this sport. Crvena Zvezda is certain that they will finish the group stages at the bottom of the table.

Zvezda just managed one draw and zero wins in the competition so far. City on the other hand have been unbeaten in the competition till now managing five wins in five matches. Both the teams however have been performing well in their domestic leagues. Zvezda is at the top of the Serbian Superliga table managing 14 wins out of 17. Their last match was against Mladost Lucani whom they managed to beat 3-1. A. Katai, J Mijatovic and I Hwang were the goalscorers for Zvezda.

City on the other hand has also managed 10 wins out of 16 in the Premier League. However, the dominance which they have been showing for the last few years is missing from their game. Their last match was against Luton Town whom they beat 2-1. Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva were on the score sheet for City. Crvena Zvezda vs Manchester City Team News

Manchester City- Though Manchester City hasn’t been as dominating as they were last season they are playing a good brand of football. Guardiola’s tactics and philosophy have been mingling with the players of the city very well. Guardiola’s way of using players has been spot-on since he came to City. How Guardiola developed John Stones to play as a CDM is praiseworthy.

However, Erling Haaland hasn’t been able to match the same kind of dominating performance as last season. Zack Steffan and Kevin De Bruyne are going to miss the match on Wednesday. City has been missing the services of KDB. His playmaking ability and interceptions are really special and he feeds Erling well this season. In his absence, newly signed Kovacic and Rodir have been complementing well.

Crvena Zvezda-  Though, top of the Serbian league Zvezda hasn’t got the squad to match a powerhouse like City. However, Zvezda will be depending on players such as Bukhari and Krasso to turn the tide for them.

Crvena Zvezda vs Manchester City Head-to-Head

The two teams have faced each other only once before this competition. The earlier one was the previous meet-up this season at the Etihad Stadium. The hosts went on to beat Zvezda by a scoreline of 3-1. Julian Alvarez and Rodri were the goalscorers for City where O Bukari scored the only solitary goal of Zvezda.

Manchester City is most probably going to win the match with Erling Haaland and Foden scoring for them. There’s very little chance that Zvezda can trouble the odds for City. There’s a lot of difference in the quality of both the squads

Crvena Zvezda vs Manchester City Players to watch out for:

Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva

The player to watch out for Manchester City is Erling Haaland. There’s no stopping for the Norwegian in this season. Haaland has netted the ball five times in the Champions League season combined with an assist. Even in the Premier League the Norwegian has amassed 14 goals and 4 assists in 15 matches this season.

Thus, his strength and aerial ability will be a major threat to Zvezda’a’s defense backline. Apart from Haaland, Bernardo Silva can be a big threat to the Serbian team. Silva is surely one of the most underrated players in football. The skill set and playmaking ability he has in the midfield and the threat he brings at the wings is surely a task to deal with.

Jena Phillipe Krasso

Jena Phillipe Krasso has been the top scorer for the team this season scoring seven leagues in the Serbian Super League. However, it will be difficult for Krasso to cope with that form against the strong backline of the City.
