Cristiano Ronaldo’s former teammate picks Lionel Messi as the GOAT
Giuseppe Rossi has picked Lionel Messi as the GOAT over his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. He believes that the Argentine does better in linking up play, and that makes him appreciate the Inter Miami star more than his rival.
Speaking to DAZN, Rossi stated that Ronaldo and Messi have brought a lot to football, and thus, it is hard to compare them. He claimed that the transformation of Ronaldo from a winger to a striker was one of the best.
He added that the Portuguese star is one of the best number nine’s in the world of football. However, he still picked Messi as his favorite, as the Argentine drops deep to help with the buildup.
He said:
“They both bring different things to the game, that’s why it’s so hard to compare them. The positioning is different, the style of play is different. The interpretation of the game is different. Ronaldo went from a winger to being the best number nine on the planet, scoring goals is all he cares about. Messi is a goalscorer but he facilitates and I appreciate that as a player who likes to come deep and get the ball.”
He added:
“He’s a more cerebral player, Messi and therefore some people don’t understand that part of the game, right? Those who do appreciate it more. So that’s why I lean more towards watching Messi play. It’s all about preference, it’s all about preference. I was lucky enough to have had the privilege of playing against them during that era in Spain.”
Giuseppe Rossi and Cristiano Ronaldo seven played matches together at Manchester United. They never managed to assist each other for a goal, but did not lose a single match in which they played together. Of the seven games, they duo started just three times and completed the full game twice.
While fans still talk about the rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the Portuguese star believes it is all in the past. Speaking in Saudi Arabia after moving to Al Nassr, the former Manchester United star claimed that he was delighted with the last 15 years as the duo pushed each other but believes that the rivalry is done.
He said:
“Those who like Cristiano Ronaldo don’t have to hate Messi. I don’t see the rivalry like that. The rivalry is gone. It was good, the spectators liked it. We shared the stage for 15 years and ended up being, I’m not saying friends, but we are professional colleagues and we respect each other.”
