The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is having a sensational season with Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, leading the tournament with 23 goals to his name.
Ronaldo is Portugal’s most-capped player with 205 appearances and also the record goal-scorer with 128 goals. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 37 goals in 38 appearances for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
Portugal manager Roberto Martinez rested the veteran striker in their thumping 5-2 win over Sweden in their last friendly tie before they begin their summer Euro 2024 campaign in Germany.
But Ronaldo wasn’t the only Portuguese player getting a respite as players like Joao Cancelo, Joao Felix, Ruben Neves, and Diogo Dalot were also excluded from the first-team squad.
The Real Madrid legend has been in superb form for both his club and country in recent months and was expected to be a part of the two international friendlies in March.

Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer, Cristiano Ronaldo was left out of the squad in a friendly against Sweden to give him a breather after a tough schedule with Al Nassr in the last few months.
The exclusion of the former Man United forward from the Portugal roster will allow him to revive and rejuvenate ahead of what could be his final major international tournament in Germany.
But Portugal coach Roberto Martinez that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could be included in their international friendly against Slovenia on March 27.
Portugal will be gearing up for their EURO 2024 opener against the Czech Republic on June 19, as Ronaldo aims to win the prestigious trophy once again, having won it in the 2016 edition.
