Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate and friend added his thoughts to the speculation, sharing an update on his show ‘Rio Talks’: ” He said, “I can’t give too much away, but I’ve been doing some work with Cristiano behind the scenes, and he’s not planning on leaving the game anytime soon. I was taken aback. Believe me, he’s got a minimum of three more years in him.”

In a quarter-final that fell out of hand for Portugal in penalties, which led to elimination against France at the Euro 2024, Roberto Martinez shared in the post-match interview on Ronaldo’s future saying, “It’s too raw to discuss that right now.”

As per media reports on Portugal’s exit, the captain has yet to make any retirement decision and has a solid two to three years of game time ahead of himself. The ex-Real Madrid star has six Euros and four World Cups to his name and also holds the record as Portugal’s most-capped player.

He was a key figure in leading his side to final of the tournaments in Euro 2016 and Euro 2004, lifting the trophy in 2016. In the 2022 Qatar World Cup, he became the first player to score in five consecutive editions of the tournament, with eight goals. He featured for his country in Euro 2024, and since has had the most tournament appearances, and remains the only player to score in five consecutive editions.
