Copa America 2024 GROUP B: Teams, Matches, Key Players, Standings and Live Telecast Details
Copa America returns for another spectacular edition as the South American championship kicks off on 20 June. Sixteen teams will compete in the 48th edition of the tournament, which will take place across three weeks in the United States.
Here, we are going to look at Group B of the championship, which comprises Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela and Jamaica. It may seem like a straightforward group, with Mexico as the favorites, but Ecuador and Jamaica can cause a surprise.
Copa America 2024 Group B Teams
Ranked 14th in the world, Mexico are the biggest side in the group and should be able to reach the knockout stages comfortably. However, their preparations haven’t gone according to plan, with El Tri losing their last two friendly games to Uruguay and Brazil, conceding seven goals in total. This obviously raises concerns over their form heading into the tournament, as Jaime Lozano’s side will be looking to turn their fortunes around when Copa America rolls around.
In the last edition of Copa America, Ecuador achieved a quarter-final finish without winning a single game. They won’t be so lucky every time, and the Tricolors will be looking to build on the momentum generated from their warmup games. So far, they’ve beaten Bolivia, and play Honduras on Sunday, which they are likely to win too, given the gulf in quality.
Venezuela have sprung a surprise in Copa America in recent years, by reaching the knockout stages following a long streak of group stage exits. However, at the Brazil showpiece three years ago, La Vinotinto went out in the first round again after failing to win any of their four group matches. This time around too, they face a tough route to the knockout stages.
Making their third appearance in Copa America are Jamaica. The Reggae Boyz qualified as the runners-up of the 2023-24 CONCACAF Nations League and will be hoping to go beyond the group stages, unlike in the 2015 and 2016 editions.
