Conor Gallagher reacts after covering unprecedented distance during Crystal Palace’s win
After suffering back-to-back defeats in the Premier League and conceding eight goals, Chelsea were back on track on Monday (Feb 12) evening after beating Crystal Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park. A brace from Conor Gallagher and another goal from Enzo Fernandez saw the West London outfit emerge with all three points in the match. However, it was Gallagher who made the headlines when he was alerted of an impressive stat in the post-match interview.
Conor Gallagher creates unique feat
Speaking after the 3-1 win to Sky Sports’ David Jones, Jamie Carragher and Petr Cech, the English midfielder was made aware of the running he had done during the match. Much to the surprise of Gallagher, Jones stated that he had run a total of 13 km in the match. This left the Chelsea man in a state of surprise.
“Wow! That’s far innit,” Gallagher replied.
“I always want to run as hard as I can for the team, but it didn’t feel like I ran that far today to be fair because we had so much of the ball. But that’s good, I’m happy.”
Gallagher was at the heart of a fantastic Chelsea comeback after he helped the Blues go level 82 seconds into the second half. He scored the equalizing goal and then propelled with a 91st-minute winner in the match. Fernandez then added icing to the cake when he scored Chelsea’s third goal of the match to register a deserved win. This all happened before Jefferson Lerma had given the hosts a halftime lead after a fantastic shot in the 30th minute.
