Cole Palmer Stats: Youngster Sets New Chelsea Record Surpassing Eden Hazard’s Feat
Eden Hazard’s Chelsea record for the most goals and assists in a single Premier League season has been officially surpassed by Cole Palmer.
Cole Palmer Stats: Record-Breaking Season
Palmer opened the score for the Blues on Wednesday night at the Amex in their penultimate Premier League match of the 2023–24 campaign against Brighton.
At just the age of 22, Palmer has now racked up 32 goal involvements in 33 Premier League games for Chelsea during his amazing season.
Chelsea paid £42.5 million for Palmer to move from Manchester City to Stamford Bridge during the past season’s summer transfer window.
Given his inexperience, that move caused some controversy at the time, but Palmer is now recognised as one of the best additions of the year.
What Pep Guardiola Said to Palmer Before His Chelsea Move?
Palmer was keen on moving to Chelsea in order to get more regular playing time, despite City manager Pep Guardiola’s best efforts to persuade him to stay at the Etihad.
“He was asking for two seasons to leave and I said, ‘No! Stay! Stay!’ – but he said, ‘No – I want to leave’ – what could we do?” Pep said last month.
“I said in pre-season, stay. He said he wanted to leave. What could we do? I said stay because Riyad [Mahrez] is gone but for two seasons he wanted to leave.”
“Playing that level [he is now] is exceptional. He’s an exceptional player. I didn’t give the minutes that maybe he deserved and now he has at Chelsea.”
“I understand completely. He’s a shy guy with a lot of potential. It is what it is. He’s playing fantastic so what can I say, the decision has been made for many reasons.”
Eden Hazard for Chelsea
Given that Hazard is regarded as a legendary player at the club, breaking his record is a significant accomplishment for Palmer.
Between 2012 and 2019, Hazard played in 352 games for Chelsea, scoring 110 goals and providing 85 assists.
In addition to winning the FA Cup and League Cup with the West Londoners, he assisted Chelsea in winning two Premier League crowns and two Europa League titles. Now It’s time for Palmer to take it from here.
