Cole Palmer admits Chelsea were poor in Burnley draw

Cole Palmer has admitted that it was a poor performance from Chelsea against Burnley. He stated that the players were too comfortable and they needed to improve. 

Speaking to the media after the match, Palmer claimed that the Chelsea players were repeating the same mistakes every week. He went on to claim that they needed to find consistency if they are to get more points this season.

He said:

“It’s poor, really… it can’t happen. Especially when they go down to ten men. We got too comfortable. Same story, we kill ourselves every week. It’s got to improve from us as players. We need consistency.”

Chelsea took the lead twice against 10-man Burnley but failed to win the match at Stamford Bridge. Cole Palmer scored both goals for his side while Josh Cullen and Dara O’Shea scored the equalizers for the away side. 

The Blues are still 11th in the table following the 2-2 draw on Saturday. It was also the fifth consecutive time Chelsea have conceded two goals in all competitions.

Mauricio Pochettino disappointed with Chelsea draw

Mauricio Pochettino has also admitted that Chelsea were below par in the second half, and it cost them the match. The manager added that his players did not do the minimum needed in a Premier League game and said:

“Agreed. Very disappointed in the way that in the second-half we managed or deal with the situation. We are a team that, when we play in possession and play forward, we are able to create too many chances, maybe not to score all the chances we created. We need to improve our percentage in the game. After today, we didn’t show the capacity, the energy, the anger. Not the minimum to compete in the Premier League.”

He added:

“In the defensive phase we concede too much. That is why I am so upset and disappointed. It’s more here [in your heart] and here [in your head] than in your legs to be strong like a group, to be strong like a team. That is sometimes the circumstance for different reasons we are so slow evolving in this area. That is the key today. It’s not to find excuses. The team played well, yes, we have energy, yes, we go forward, yes, but afterwards when we don’t have the ball we don’t have the same energy.”

Chelsea next face Manchester United in the Premier League, before traveling to Sheffield United.
