Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka suffers sudden injury, return date revealed
Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has to postpone his debut with England U21 due to a sudden injury. The 20-year old player missed the Euro U21 match against Azerbaijan which England won 5-1. However the injury is not that bad as Chukwuemeka is expected to get back in the upcoming game against Luxembourg.
Chukwuemeka has shown great form upon his return from injury at Stamford Bridge. However his season has been mostly on the sidelines as he has featured in only 6 games for the West London club.
Carney Chukwuemeka’s injury history
Due to a knee injury suffered earlier this season, Chukwuemeka has missed 12 games from mid-October to December including the home game against Arsenal. He returned to action in January this year but then suffered another injury in February, missing another Arsenal game this season.
Chukwuemeka played an important role for Chelsea in the latest FA Cup outing against Leicester City, scoring one despite playing only 12 minutes. He is still on contract with Chelsea until 2028, meaning that he is very much in the club’s plans.
England U21 aiming for Euro group stage spot
England are fighting for the top spot of Group F in order to secure their place in the final fixtures. Lee Carsley’s squad are sitting second with 15 points, the same amount which the top table Ukraine have collected so far.
Carsley vows that he would take the Euro 21 campaign seriously. The former Everton defender has also denied the rumour of him taking the Republic of Ireland head coach job.
‘I’ve always said that I’m really privileged to do this job I’m in,” he said via Dailymail. “I appreciate that I’m in a really good position with a lot of responsibility.”
