Chelsea 4-0 Southampton Player Ratings: Chelsea demolish Southampton to get back to winning ways

Chelsea ended their double loss streak with a fantastic, dominating performance over Southampton, winning 4-0 as Nkunku, Neto, Colwill and Cucurella got on to the scoresheet. Chelsea leapfrogged Manchester City with this result to the fourth place, albeit playing an extra game. The gloomy season continues for Southampton as they add another defeat to their season, losing 22 of their 27 games played so far.

Both teams made changes to their starting eleven, coming off from a defeat. Maresca made two changes where as Juric went with five. It was a slow start for the Blues, but they began to click later in the half. Maresca’s side opened the scoring as Nkunku arrived at the back post to head home from a corner. Neto doubled Chelsea’s lead as he burst into the box and fired into the near post after a smart pass from Nkunku.

Late in the half, Chelsea made it three as Southampton-born Colwill powered a header home from a Neto delivery, giving the Saints a mountain to climb. Onuachu perhaps should have scored with what was Southampton’s best chance of the game, but his header was kept out by Jorgensen.

The second half slowed down with Chelsea looking comfortable with the lead they’ve got. The Blues were still in the driving seat, creating dangerous chances on a consistent basis while Southampton struggled to score. Chelsea added the fourth goal of the night, thanks to Cucurella firing it into the bottom corner after they broke into a counter attack because of a failed corner from Southampton.

Both sides made substitutions for improving their team, but the result stayed the same
