Why didn’t Ben Chilwell appear in the Chelsea vs Burnley clash?
Chilwell has overseen an injury-hit campaign for The Blues
Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell missed their Premier League draw with Burnley on Saturday through an injury. The embattled defender has missed plenty of games this season due to fitness issues and sustained another knock while on international duty with England.
Chilwell was in action for the Three Lions for their friendly games with Brazil and Belgium, at the end of which he picked up a fresh injury concern. Although the exact nature of his problem isn’t known, it threatens to sideline him for some more time.
He had missed three full months earlier this season through a hamstring injury that kept him out of 23 games across October, November, and December. He then missed one more game in January due to a lack of fitness. Now, the Englishman has been dealt a triple whammy.
Moreover, it couldn’t have happened at a worse time as Chelsea have a congested fixture list ahead of them with the season fast drawing to a close. Chilwell has made only 12 appearances in the league this season, bagging one assist.
Chelsea draw to Burnley, slip below top 10
Chelsea drew 2-2 with the relegation-battling Burnley at home on Saturday to drop below the top 10 positions on the Premier League table. Cole Palmer put them 1-0 up from the penalty spot just moments before half-time, but Josh Cullen equalized for the Clarets in the 47th minute. Palmer then restored Chelsea’s lead in the 78th minute, before Dara O’Shea restored parity for the Blues another three minutes later. What’s more startling is that Burnley earned a point despite playing with 10 men for over 50 minutes, as Lorenz Assignon was sent off for the visitors in the first half.
