Chelsea Transfer News: Blues to miss out on Victor Osimhen signing for THIS reason
Chelsea are ready for yet another bumper season as they try to establish themselves as a force in English football. The club is expected to have a big summer in terms of managerial recruitment and transfer business while also keeping an eye on the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Part of the transfer window remains to sign a striker as they look to fill the void in the final third. However, the club has been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit as Napoli star Victor Osimhen is unlikely to match the team’s budget.
Chelsea to miss out on Osimhen
“He [Osimhen] has a very high salary, 12m Euros, net, for next season. That’s the reason why Chelsea didn’t go forward. They had a meeting with the agent of Osimhen but they didn’t find an agreement on the salary,” football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio quoted.
The Napoli star’s reported salary has turned out to be a stumbling block for the West London side who will have to be particular on their balance sheet with Premier League and UEFA keeping close eyes. Chelsea will have a limited budget to spend and pay salaries to the players as they could be in danger of breaching the PSR.
As things stand, the club is taking a huge loss on Romleu Lukaku who played for only one season at the club since his record move in the summer of 2022. Players like Hakim Ziyech and Armando Broja are also part of the salary roster despite them not playing for the club. Chelsea will have to get rid of these players before they can start investing in players.
Thus budget limitations have made it almost impossible for them to buy players at high salaries. Todd Boehly will also have to make a huge decision on the futures of Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah who have been linked with a move away from the club. The club’s inability to purchase players before selling homegrown talent is another big obstacle in landing preferable targets.
Chelsea’s need for a striker
The team will need a proven back-up for Nicolas Jackson who has impressed in spells during the 2023-24 season. The two-time European champions will be returning to play continental football next season in UEFA Conference League and will thus need good depth in the squad if injuries and other factors play their part.
While Lukaku’s return has already been turned down, he has been made available for other teams for a reported some in the region of $40 million.
