Chelsea Transfer: 5 players Chelsea should sell this summer
Chelsea have slowly found their form but it was a little too late in the season. They are bound to finish between 5th and 7th but will be keen on getting into the Top 4 next season.
However, there are still a few things they need to sort out in the squad, and selling a few players will be key. While reports suggest Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah are the likely sales for PSR and FFP purposes, they are not the ideal players the club should be looking to sell.
Without further ado, here are 5 players Chelsea (Chelsea Transfer) should sell this summer:
1. Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling was the first big signing done by the new owners, but the Englishman has just not managed to seal his place in the starting XI. The Blues have one last chance to cash in on the winger and should part ways this summer.
There is reported interest from Saudi Pro League clubs and it should be the focus for Chelsea. He has not been better than Mykhailo Mudryk, while Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson are also ready to challenge for the left-wing spot.
Sterling has not shown his worth at Stamford Bridge and should be the first sale this summer.
2. Romelu Lukaku
Romelu Lukaku forced a loan move away in the last two summers and should be cutting ties this time around. The Belgian has no intention to play for the club again, even though he can easily fight for a spot next season.
Reports suggest Lukaku has a £38 million release clause in his contract. Saudi Pro League sides are said to be interested, while Italian media claim Napoli is keeping tabs.
3. Kepa Arrizabalaga
Kepa Arrizabalaga jumped on the chance to play for Real Madrid this season and has no place in the squad next season. Chelsea needs to ship the Spanish goalkeeper away this summer as he is not the one to be #1 at the club, while he is on too high wages to remain #2.
Spanish clubs are interested in signing Kepa, and Chelsea should be looking to capitalize on it and take the best offer.
4. Robert Sanchez
Robert Sanchez was signed last summer but should be leaving a year later. It is clear why Roberto de Zerbi made him a 3rd choice goalkeeper within months of taking over and Chelsea made a mistake by signing him last summer.
The Blues need to sign a new goalkeeper who can challenge Đorđe Petrović as Sanchez is clearly not the one to do that. He should be heading back to Spain this summer, as he still has a couple of seasons of top-flight football left in him, just not in the Premier League.
5. Ben Chilwell or Marc Cucurella
Chelsea needs a left-back this summer, as Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella are just not doing enough. The Englishman is hardly fit, while the Spaniard has very few matches where he has done well for the club.
The decision has to be made with a lot in mind- finances, possible fees and who comes in to replace one of them. Selling both is also an option, but that would require two left-backs coming in – something not practical right now as the market is dry.
