Potential options for Chelsea’s next manager as the Horsemen look for a replacement for Pochettino
Mauricio Pochettino agreed to leave Chelsea with mutual consent after meeting several of the club’s executives. The decision was taken after the club had a review over the Argentinian’s work for the whole season. The Telegraph reported that a few names appeared to replace the 52-year-old manager.
Chelsea are looking for a “young and progressive” replacement to fill the managerial role at the club. The likes of Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness, Michel Muñoz from Girona, Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca, and Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna are considered to be on the list.
Who could be Chelsea next manager, as Horsemen are looking for a Pochettino replacement?
Hoeness successfully led Stuttgart to finish second in the Bundesliga, outranking Bayern Munich in the very final week. The case with Michel is also kind of similar, with Girona surprisingly finishing third at the final table. Meanwhile, Maresca and McKenna have both led their respective team to gain the Premier League promotion.
Pochettino agreed to leave one season earlier than the initial contract. On paper, the former Southampton manager does still have a contract with Chelsea until June 2025. Poch is reported to have pocketed a significant compensation fee following his early leave.
Pochettino is the fifth manager to be sacked by Chelsea in the last two years. Specifically under Todd Boehly’s reign in the club, Poch is the third name to go separate ways after Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.
Taking a look at what Pochettino has done with a bunch of young players, it is not that inferior. Chelsea managed to finish sixth, which allows them to have a European qualification, the final and semi-final of the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, respectively.
