“Potential to be a fantastic striker” – Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino comments on Nicolas Jackson
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino comments on Nicolas Jackson
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino feels in-form Nicolas Jackson can be a “fantastic striker” for his team. The young Senegalese gun is breathing fire at the moment, netting four goals in their last three Premier League games as the striker is peaking at the fag end of their campaign.
Signed on a £32 million transfer from Villarreal last summer, Jackson has enjoyed a great first season with the Blues overall, netting 17 times and assisting six more goals from 42 appearances. It took a while to find his feet, but is now looking unstoppable.
Of his 14 league goals, exactly half have come within the last three months alone, which tell you that Jackson is slowly adapting to life in London. His manager Pochettino held the player in high regard, saying that he has the potential to be “fantastic”, and that he’s working hard towards it.
The Argentine said:
“Nico Jackson has the potential to be a fantastic striker. It’s about patience and time. He’s been working really hard, he’s changing the opinion. I am so happy that now people are starting to see Nico in the way we saw.”
Having scored in their last three top-flight games, Jackson is likely to start against Brighton again tonight, with the striker hungry to add more to his goal tally.
Chelsea finishing their topsy-turvy campaign strongly
Since their 5-0 loss to Arsenal on 24 April, Chelsea have gone their next four unbeaten, winning their last three. This includes wins over local rivals Tottenham Hotspur (2-0) and West Ham (5-0). Last weekend, the Blues also pulled off a late 3-2 comeback victory over Nottingham Forest, with Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson scoring quickfire goals in the last 10 minutes of normal time. Even though European football seems out of their reach now, finishing their campaign with five wins on the trot would mark a really good campaign to their season, with a promise of bigger things to come in the next.
