Former Manchester City goalkeeper subject to interest from Newcastle United
The summer transfer window in Europe has entered its final week. Not many big-name transfers are in progress right now and consequently one can expect the final days to be devoid of big-money moves. Nonetheless, backups and financially astute deals are very much a talking point currently as Newcastle United lines up a move for former Manchester City goalkeeper, James Trafford.
Trafford is currently a part of Burnley, playing in the EFL Championship. The 21-year-old has become the first choice for Scott Parker at the club. The Magpies, according to talkSPORT, have registered an interest in Trafford again after following him closely throughout the summer. The Englishman is rumoured to be willing to move to St. James’ Park but awaits the final decision regarding Newcastle’s existing shot-stoppers, Martin Dubravka and Odisseas Vlachodimos.

James Trafford has enjoyed a distinguished career to date. He was fortunate to have risen through the youth ranks at Manchester City, where Trafford got to learn under the guidance of Ederson and Pep Guardiola. The football world first got to witness his genius and potential during the Under-21 UEFA Euros in 2023 where he delivered a splendid performance in the final against Spain.
Newcastle United gearing up for a busy end to the transfer window
Supporters of Newcastle United were disappointed with the club’s seventh-placed finish in the Premier League last season. So far, the club’s transfer activity has been a bit underwhelming for the fans’ liking but that can all change in the twilight days of the 2024 European transfer market. Long-time club servant, Kieran Trippier is nearing a move to Everton amidst locker room tension.
Fellow England international, Matt Targett is also on the verge of departing the club. The majority of the club’s focus, though, is on completing a deal for Marc Guehi. The English central defender has expressed his desire to join Newcastle United who are confident to get the deal over the line with Crystal Palace in the coming days.
