Bruno Fernandes facing late fitness test ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Crystal Palace
Ever since he signed for Manchester United in January 2020, few players have been as consistent and prolific for the Red Devils. Not even Marcus Rashford has contributed as much as Fernandes’ 143 goals since the Portuguese international’s arrival. However, it’s his presence in the squad week in, week out that has helped the team more as the midfielder has barely missed any games.
Since he arrived at Old Trafford, the now 29-year-old has never had to sit out a club game through injury which is a trend that echoes throughout his career. So much so, that Fernandes has sat out just two games since turning professional, one for previous side Sampdoria and one for Manchester United. Not only that, he is the only player to have played in over 70 games in 2023 with over 6000 minutes.

However, for the first time in his club career, Fernandes could miss out on a game through injury as reports have indicated that the Portuguese international is unfit to face Crystal Palace. As per X (formerly known as Twitter) account Insider United, the 29-year-old will miss the game. That comes after Erik ten Hag revealed, during his pre-match press conference, that Fernandes was a doubt.
The United captain picked up a problem during their game against Burnley and reports have indicated that his wrist injury is the reason that he’ll miss the Palace clash. The Portuguese star is joined by Harry Maguire as the Englishman was ruled out for three weeks. The defender reportedly sustained a muscle injury and Ten Hag confirmed the same during his presser as well.
This marks a serious injury crisis for the Red Devils as aside from Fernandes and Maguire, Ten Hag is also without Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, Victor Lindelof, and a few others. It leaves the club with a barebones squad and reports have indicated that youngster Toby Collyer has also made the matchday squad.
