Bruno Fernandes explains why he chose to stay at Manchester United, says ‘The club has confidence…’
Bruno Fernandes has signed a contract with Manchester United that will keep him at the club until 2027, with an option to extend for another year. The club announced on Wednesday that the Portuguese midfielder has signed an extension. He has been a key member of the Red Devils since he moved from Sporting CP in 2020. There have been talks of his move away from Old Trafford and was being linked to clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Fernandes said, “This vote of confidence from the club was very important for me. Even though I was approached by other clubs, and United was aware that there was a possibility of me leaving, I had concrete offers. But the club showed that it needed me, that it was at a time of change, and that they wanted to do things differently.”
Bruno Fernandes’ Impact
The 29-year-old is optimistic that the club will do well in the future under the leadership of Erik Ten Hag, and this made him stay at Old Trafford for another few years. He has bagged 79 goals during his stay at the club and was named captain by the Ten Hags ahead of the start of last season. His consistent involvement in goals and assists has been instrumental in helping United win the FA Cup last season. His impact goes beyond just scoring and assisting, as he is a pivotal figure in the dressing room.
Fernandes’ focus will now be on the start of the season as Manchester United take on Fulham in their Premier League opener on Friday, August 16 at Old Trafford.
