Bruno Fernandes demands teammates to match the club’s “standard” prior to the FA Cup final
Bruno Fernandes has been one of the most outstanding players amid Manchester United’s poor performance this season. The Portuguese vowed to do the best he could to bring United back on the winning track, adding it was his dream to play for the club.
Fernandes was one of the most prolific attackers this season with 15 goals. Only Rasmus Hojlund (16) scored more than him across the competitions.
One win that could make a difference
United will face the same-city rival Manchester City in the FA Cup final. A win could make The Red Devils eligible to play in the Europa League next season, where Fernandes desires the club to be.
“We want to compete for the league,” he told The Players’ Tribune. “We want to be playing Champions League football. We want to be in cup finals. That is the standard. That is what I want. That is what you all deserve.”
Prior to the final, Fernandes urged his teammates to give it their all out. The former Sporting CP midfielder added that a cup final is where United is supposed to be and winning it would pay the expectations from fans.
“After this difficult season, it is my responsibility to give more. It starts with me. And it starts tomorrow. We have to give everything in this last match against City, and we have to move forward.
“I love to step out at Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t want to leave. This has always been my ultimate dream. I just want my expectations to fit with the expectations of the club. If you go talk to any fan, they will tell you the same thing.”
The United captain was rumoured to attract interest from Bayern Munich and several Saudi Pro League sides to lure him out of the Old Trafford. Back in April, Fernandes admitted that as long as United needed him, he would play with all of his heart.
