Brighton’s Danny Welbeck Suffers Injury After Mid-Air Collision Against Newcastle
Danny Welbeck needed an oxygen mask and stretcher to leave the pitch during Brighton & Hove Albion’s win over Newcastle United. The striker was rushed to a hospital but has been discharged already.
Speaking about the striker, Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler admitted that he was still waiting for the scans for his striker. He said:
“I can’t give you any updates until Danny has a scan. I think he got the opponent’s knee in his back. Hopefully it’s not that bad but we can’t be sure. Danny has a big talent but he’s not only a great footballer but a great teammate and a role model for the young players. I’m very pleased with him.”
He added:
“We have to be honest. In the end I wouldn’t say it was a deserved win but my team suffered and defended together. Sometimes that’s football. In the first half Newcastle had some big chances and great intensity. We didn’t deserve to score when we did but it was a great moment of individual quality from Danny Welbeck and then we showed a great reaction in the second half.”
Welbeck had a mid-air collision with Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar. The striker got a knee to his lower back and was unable to continue.
However, there is a positive update on the Englishman as he has been spotted flying back to Brighton with his teammates. Before leaving the pitch abruptly, Welbeck scored the lone goal of the match and that helped his side pick up all three points in the game.
