The mid-1980s saw the club making several huge signings which saw the club reach 8th place in the first Division in 1987. After a promising season, the club again fumbled and slid down to the second division in 1988.

Brest FC was also promoted to the National 1 Championship in 1993. After fighting in low-division football for several years, the club finally reached Ligue 2 in 2004. After reaching the Ligue 1 once again during this time, the club was unable to make the most out of it and was once again in the relegation zone for several years.

Things seemed to change for the club in the early 2020s as they came back to the Ligue 1 after six years. After having successive wins in a couple of seasons, it was in the 2023-24 season when the club reached new levels of success. Brest FC finished in third position at the end of the season getting a place in the UEFA Champions League in the process.

Their European debut was one to remember for the club as they defeated Sturm Graz in a thrilling 2-1 victory. As they have a huge match lined up against Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage ahead, they would look to make their first-ever stay a memorable one by having a tough match against the Spanish side.
