BREAKING: Phil Foden unlikely to join England squad due to virus
Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden will not be a part of the Three Lions squad in the Nations League due to an illness that forced him out of the club’s last two games of the season.
Foden suffered an illness in the early stages of the season and played only 45 minutes against Chelsea at the start of the campaign. The 24-year-old was named in Lee Carsley’s squad for England’s UEFA Nations League games against Ireland and Finland in the coming days.
But manager Pep Guardiola believes Foden would not be able to represent his nation in the Nations League.
“I don’t think so right now,” said Guardiola about Foden.
“I think he will not go but I don’t know. He doesn’t feel well. But national teams, they decide.”
