BREAKING: Brazil legend Romario announces shock return to professional football
Brazil and Barcelona legend Romario has made a shock announcement regarding his return to professional football 15 years after retiring. The 58-year-old has now decided to bring an end to his long hiatus from the sport and represent Brazilian team America Football Club in Rio de Janeiro.
Romario’s return to professional football
Romario began his playing career with Vasco da Gama in 1985 and came full circle as it was his penultimate club before he signed for America FC. He played his last game for America back in 2009 and called time on his career which spanned over two decades.
In that time, Romario won several honors with various clubs across the world. He has three Eredivisie titles, one La Liga and one Brasileiro Serie A to his name through those years. He made a total of 893 appearances for all his clubs put together, scoring an impressive 690 goals in that time.
The forward also enjoyed great success with the Brazilian national team. He made 71 appearances for them, scoring 55 goals and providing 11 assists. With Brazil, Romario won one FIFA World Cup, one FIFA Confederations Cup and two Copa America crowns.
Now, despite being 58, Romario’s spirit is itching to get back to playing the game he made a name for himself out of.
