Brazilian football legend Pele’s mother dies at the age of 101
Pele’s mother Celeste Arantes did suffer from ‘cognitive difficulties’ – Reports
The mother of Brazilian football legend Pele known by the name of Celeste Arantes has reportedly passed away at the age of 101. Earlier in the year 2022 on December 29, Pele passed away aged 82. His mother Arantes gave birth to Brazil’s iconic forward player when she was just 17 years old.
The news broke when the footballer’s most grown-up son Edinho stretched out a message on one of his social handles (Instagram) reportedly saying – “Rest in peace, grandma”. The write-up was reflected upon a picture which ideally reflected Edinho’s father Pele hugging his mother Celeste Arantes.
However, any major details regarding the cause of death of Pele’s mother haven’t been listed in the media so far. Most of the reports pointed out that, Celeste was in a hospital for the last week or so and breathed her last on Friday, June 21, 2024. Few of the reports though pointed out that when Pele died, his mother suffered from ‘cognitive difficulties’ and wasn’t aware of her son’s death.
Former Brazil forward Pele’s father known by the name of Joao Ramos do Nascimento married Celeste Arantes when she was about 16 years old. Their other son reportedly going by the name of Jair, left the world four years ago due to cancer. Apparently, the illness that claimed Jair’s life was also the main reason behind Pele’s death.
One of the messages that Brazilian legend Pele inflicted for his mother on her 100th birthday read – “From a young age, she taught me the value of love and peace”. His message was further accompanied by several pictures of him and his mother together sharing some memorable moments. Some days after his mother’s birthday, the footballer was admitted to a hospital, where he later died of cancer.
