Blackburn vs Burnley Preview

  • Tournament: EFL Championship 2024-25
  • Date: Saturday, January 4, 2025
  • Time: 12:30 pm GMT
  • Venue: Ewood Park

Blackburn Rovers will host Burnley in their EFL Championship clash at Ewood Park on Saturday, January 4. It is an important match given the positions of both sides in the table in pursuit of a promotion to the Premier League.

Blackburn are currently fifth in the table, 13 points behind leaders Leeds United with a game in hand. They have won 11, drawn five and lost seven of their 23 league games. With teams so close to each other in terms of points, a win could be huge for their push to secure a playoff place.

Burnley, meanwhile, are third in the standings, three points behind Leeds. They have won 13, drawn nine and lost two of their 24 league games so far. They are just a point behind second-placed Sheffield United. They will be eager to fight for a direct promotion on the first time of asking rather than going through the playoffs.

Notably, Blackburn will face Leeds United and Burnley will face Stoke City on New Year’s Day which could lead to a change in table positions and team news.

The Japanese striker has gone through a terrible run of form but is still Blackburn’s top scorer this season with five goals and one assist in 23 games across competitions. He scored in their 2-2 draw against Sunderland recently. However, he then started on the bench against Hull City as they lost 1-0.

His goal against Sunderland was his first goal contribution after 16 games. Ohashi and Blackburn will hope that he can continue to add to his tally on Saturday against a tough opponent in Burnley.

Josh Brownhill

Josh Brownhill has been excellent for Burnley over the years and it’s the same this season as well. He is their top scorer with nine goals and three assists in 22 Championship games and continues to create for the Clarets.

Brownhill has scored three goals and provided one assist in his last four appearances for Burnley. He scored in three games straight before failing to get on the scoresheet in their last match against Middlesbrough. He will be keen to make sure this is just a blip and he can continue his goalscoring form.

Blackburn vs Burnley Prediction

It is a big match for both sides at this point in the season. While there is still around half the season remaining, both sides will be wary of losing points and starting a downward spiral.

Blackburn have been good this season but are already going through a tough run of form. They are winless in their last three games, having lost 1-0 against Millwall, drawn 2-2 against Sunderland and then lost 1-0 against Hull City. They face Leeds United away next, which won’t be easy fixture either.

Burnley, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last 11 games with seven wins and four draws. Their last defeat came on November 3 as they lost 1-0 against Millwall. They beat Watford 2-1, and Sheffield United 2-0 before drawing 0-0 against Middlesbrough in their last three games.

Both sides also have a few injuries to deal with but considering their form, Burnley are likely to able to take a positive result against the hosts.

Predicted Score: 2-2
