Best Midfielders in FPL Gameweek 30
It’s finally a return to a regular gameweek after a long while, but there are concerns over players nursing injuries from the international break and a crucial clash at the top of the table. The return to normalcy has been eagerly awaited by many FPL managers, especially following the disastrous GW29, which was notably the lowest-scoring gameweek in the game’s history. That being said, there is a full round of games taking place this weekend which should result in healthier scores after only four matches were played last time around. It features a pivotal title bout between Manchester City and Arsenal alongside several other fixtures that could see a few managers walk out with big hauls.
Bruno Fernandes (£8.2m)
Four goals and seven assists in 27 appearances this season would be a respectable total for most players but not for Bruno Fernandes. Manchester United have struggled and with them their star midfielder has struggled for form and consistency as well.
Yet, Fernandes may have just hit a nice vein of form over the last few games even if his side haven’t come out on top. The midfielder has three goal contributions in as many games (1 goal 2 assists) and while the Red Devils have a tough(ish) fixture list going forward, he could be an interesting option.
They face Chelsea and Liverpool after a trip to Brentford with Arsenal, Brighton and Newcastle United all on their dance cards before the end of the season. However, the one good thing about Fernandes is the fact that he will play every single league game when fit, and more often than not, he has been fit.
Morgan Gibbs-White (£5.7m)
A questionable choice? Absolutely not especially given the form Morgan Gibbs-White has been in lately and the midfielder has been thriving. The midfielder has contributed to two goals in his last five games (1 goal and 1 assist) but it’s his underlying numbers that really stand out. He has broken into the top 10 for expected goal involvements (2.9) over the past six gameweeks.
Not only that, combined with his cheap price, it allows managers to splurge elsewhere on options like Mohamed Salah, Son Heung-Min and more. However, add to the fact that Nottingham Forest have a juicy round of fixtures and it only adds to the pros side. The Tricky Trees face Crystal Palace, Fulham and Wolves over their next four GWs and it only adds to the potential points.
Mohamed Salah (£13.1m)
Back from injury, more than a two week rest and it does mean that Mohamed Salah should be back on many FPL teams and that seems to be the case. The Egyptian is the most bought player at the time of writing with over 340,000 new owners which is more than double the next player. It makes sense because Salah, in a season where he has missed a decent chunk of games, has still contributed to 24 goals (15 goals and 9 assists).
That alone is ridiculous and with him more or less guaranteed to start going forward and on penalties, it makes him an excellent option to have. As if that wasn’t enough, Liverpool have a double gameweek in the near future which will only add to Salah’s points total and make him an attractive option.
Anthony Gordon (£6.0m)
At the time of writing, only 13.3% of FPL teams within the game own Anthony Gordon which makes the Newcastle United attacker the perfect differential option. The young star has thrived for England recently and has enjoyed a successful debut season with the Magpies. That especially includes his games at St James’ Park where he has contributed to 14 goals this season.
It’s a total that few other players can match at home but Gordon’s biggest issue has been his lack of consistency and the same goes for Newcastle. The Magpies haven’t quite been their best this term but with four of their next six games being played at home, Gordon might be an option. A risky one but an option that managers can use given just how expensive other options are.
Cole Palmer (£5.7m)
What can be said about Cole Palmer that hasn’t been said already? The young star has been sensational for Chelsea this season and with 20 goal contributions (11 goals and 9 assists), he’s been a key FPL asset. That combined with his price and the fact that Palmer has been a key part of Chelsea’s squad this term, makes him a must have for any FPL manager.
Not only that, the young English midfielder has contributed to five goals (1 goal and 4 assists) in his last five games with three goal contributions in as many appearances. It’s an impressive run of form for the youngster and given his £5.7m price-tag, it only makes him a great budget option.
