Best Forward Picks in FPL Gameweek 28
With an average points total of just 45, Gameweek 27 had many managers pulling out their hairs although a few had an excellent gameweek. Still, that was mainly thanks to the forwards. Ollie Watkins, Timo Werner, Rodrigo Muniz, Darwin Nunez, and others all had goal-scoring weekends. But Erling Haaland could have been the star of that show had he tucked away the few chances he had.
Even then, with double FPL Gameweek 28 coming up next, it has many managers wondering which players would make the best options for what could prove to be the last double-game week. Yet with a few more FA Cup fixtures on the horizon, it may not be the last.
Here are the best forward picks in FPL for game week 28:-
Ollie Watkins | Aston Villa | £8.9m
For those that don’t already have Ollie Watkins, drop everything and sign the forward. Let’s put it this way, if last season was Erling Haaland’s claim to fame, this season belongs to Watkins. He has scored 16 goals and assisted a further 15 by FPL’s method of measurement which means no other player has contributed to more goals this season. Not Mohamed Salah, not Haaland, not Bukayo Saka, nobody has come close to Watkins’.
As if that wasn’t enough, nobody has produced more goal-creating actions (22), only Pedro Neto has more GCA per 90s (Goal creating actions per 90) and he has the second-best non-penalty xG. What all those stats mean is that the Englishman is having one heck of a season as an attacker. The last time an English player had a season this good, Jack Grealish made the Euro 2021 squad and got the chance to thrive on the world stage for his country. So pick Ollie Watkins or suffer the consequences.
Rodrigo Muniz | Fulham | £4.5m
Given the other names on this list, Rodrigo Muniz won’t stand out for anyone, and even via the statistics the Brazilian doesn’t stand out at all. The Fulham forward has scored only five goals this season, earning a total of 54 points in the 2023/24 season. So why is he on this list? Well, his five goals have come in the last five league games that the Cottagers have played.
That run does include a 2-1 win over Manchester United where Muniz took five shots as the Craven Cottage side somehow managed to sneak a late winner. It does make the 22-year-old an interesting option at the very least especially since, at the time of writing, only 2.5% of managers have picked him. But given that Muniz is on a hot streak right now, there’s always the chance that the run of form eventually drops out, so make a wise decision.

Dominic Solanke | AFC Bournemouth | £7.1m
The joint fourth-highest goal-scorer so far, Dominic Solanke is certainly having an interesting season for Bournemouth. He is their top goalscorer by some distance but even then, the forward is struggling for form at the moment. An injury before the Cherries’ 2-1 win over Burnley meant that Solanke didn’t play the game fully fit and yet he caused more than a few problems for the Clarets.
That does bode well for the 24% of managers that still own the English striker as Bournemouth will play twice in Double Gameweek 28. The first game is against Sheffield United before the Cherries face Luton Town which doesn’t just make Solanke a decent option but an interesting one as well. Still, as Erling Haaland proved during the last double gameweek, goals are never guaranteed.
Carlton Morris | Luton Town | £5.1m
What makes Carlton Morris so interesting as a pick? Well for one, Luton Town play twice in Double Gameweek 28 and Morris is likely to start both games beyond a major injury. As if that wasn’t enough, while Luton have been winless since Gameweek 22, Morris has missed the net just once. The forward has contributed to 7 goals in his last seven games, blanking just once although that was against Liverpool.
As if that wasn’t enough, he ranks ahead of Alexander Isak, Yoane Wissa, and a few others on the ICT index even if he is behind Ollie Watkins, Darwin Nunez, Joao Pedro, and a few others. Yet, with Luton Town playing twice and with Morris picked by only 6.1% of FPL managers, a good outing by the forward makes him the perfect differential option.
Nicolas Jackson | Chelsea | £6.8m
Hold your horses. Yes, he plays for Chelsea, yes he has been rather inconsistent and has scored just 8 goals in 19 appearances but Nicolas Jackson has found what looks like a good run of form. The forward’s major issue this season hasn’t been the fact that Chelsea have struggled to create chances or that he has struggled to get in the right position; it’s the fact that he has struggled to finish them.
But off late, Jackson has been in the right place, at the right time and scored a big goal against Brentford. Add that to the fact that he has two goal contributions in as many games, an xG of 1.61 over the same period and an xGI (expected goals involvement) of 2.01, it makes him an interesting choice. A risky bet at the same time but someone who looks like he might have hit on a nice vein of form.
