Five captaincy candidates to have in your FPL gameweek 3 squad
FPL managers, it’s time to fasten your seatbelts. The English Premier League 2024-25 gameweek 3 is about to kick-off. By now, most of you must have made your strategic moves. But, be careful while choosing your captain as he will bring you the most points.
Just imagine if you had captained Erling Haaland last week! And, if you had triple-captained him, the hat trick hero would have helped you boost way up in your rankings! So, if you wish for a similar success this week too, read below and find out who should be your pick for captaincy for FPL 2024-25 gameweek 3.
1. Erling Haaland
The best performer from last week, Haaland will face West Ham next. He’s among the best captain picks for FPL gameweek 3. He scored an impressive hattrick against Ipswich Town in the last game, after punishing the mighty Chelsea FC in the first one. He seems to carry his fierce form from last season.
He was one of the highest contributors in FPL 2023-24. He is looking too dangerous this time too. Picking Haaland as your captain would be the best call. Against a not-so-well-equipped West Ham defense, Erling is expected to strike more than once.
2. Bukayo Saka
One of the top performers from the midfield, Bukayo Saka is speculated to give his best once again. He already has three goal contributions in two games and tallies with one of the highest points in this FPL.
Facing Brighton next, Saka is expected to penetrate deep into their backline with ease. He is one of Arteta’s most trusted in front of goal and even if he gets no pace to score, he would definitely assist a few. Picking Saka as the captain can also be a plus.
3. Cole Palmer
22-year-old English attacking midfielder Cole Palmer has been one of the best-performing players from last week. In just a single match he had four goal contributions, despite not playing full minutes.
In the Premier League, Chelsea will play Crystal Palace next. Palmer is expected to hold his consistency and produce another stellar performance. Picking him as the captain can be a safe call, primarily because he does both, scores and assists. And secondarily, the opponent might be an easy one for his team.
4. Son Heung-Min
The Tottenham Hotspur captain has been another top performer in gameweek 2. He scored a brace against a steady Everton side, earning a valuable 16 points. Next, his side will clash against another underdog Newcastle United.
Son is predicted to give a similar performance as he did against Everton. Choosing him as the captain can be a game-changer for your FPL side, as many would choose him in the squad but not as the captain. So, if Son performs, you stand a chance to rise above all.
5. Yoane Wissa
Yoane Wissa might not be a familiar name in your selections. But, the Brentford attacker made headlines in the campaign opener, when he gave a two-goal contribution in his side’s win against the mighty Crystal Palace.
Wissa is set to take the field against Southampton FC, who suffer from a struggling defense. Wissa as your captain can be your trump card. He is a goal-poacher and is predicted to net a few against Southampton. If Wissa strikes well, your risk will yield the best results.
