Ben Doak withdrew from Scotland’s Euro 2024 Squad Due to Injury

Scotland’s preparations for Euro 2024 have been dealt a blow as Liverpool forward Ben Doak has been released from the squad for injury. Doak was in Steve Clarke’s preliminary squad of 28 players.

Scottish Football Association Confirms Ben Doak Injury

The 18-year-old failed to make himself available for the recent friendly match against Gibraltar that Scotland won. This, in turn, raises questions about his fitness for the position.

The Scottish Football Association confirmed his withdrawal through a statement on social media:

“Sadly, Ben Doak has been withdrawn from the #EURO2024 squad through injury. Ben, we know we’ll see you entertaining crowds at Hampden in a Scotland shirt soon.”

Ben Doak sustained a knee injury. The absence of Doak is a great blow to Scotland’s team. The Liverpool forward was viewed as a good option because of his speed and game-changing potential when coming off the bench.

Doak impressed in Europa League matches before his injury. However, he has yet to make his debut for the national team and has not played for Liverpool since December.

Who Will Replace Ben Doak in Scotland’s Euro 2024 Squad?

As Ben Doak has now been withdrawn, Steve Clarke has called up 21-year-old Tommy Conway from Bristol City.

This is Conway’s first call-up to the national team. The attacker could feature in Scotland’s final warm-up game against Finland on Friday. Scotland will then face Euro 2024 hosts Germany in the tournament’s opening match on June 14 in Munich. Their group also includes Hungary and Switzerland.
