Ben Chilwell Injury Update – When will the English defender return to action for Chelsea?

Chelsea defender Ben Chiwell has missed the major part of the ongoing 2023/24 season with a hamstring injury and it has limited the English defender to only 18 appearances in all competitions this season.

The England defender suffered a knock on his knee in the Brentford draw last week and will have to seek extra attention to get back on track.

Ben Chilwell Injury: How long will he be out?

Injuries have plagued Chelsea this season but the return of Ben Chilwell has been one of the positives for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season.

But the English defender unfortunately suffered a knee injury in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Brentford and will now be undergoing a specialist medical assessment and it’s unclear how long Chilwell will now be out.

Ben Chilwell’s injury will probably affect his participation in the upcoming Euro 2024 for the Three Lions but Mauricio Pochettino remains hopeful for an early return this time.

“We need to wait until he sees the specialist,” Pochettino insisted. “I hope it’s not a big issue but I prefer to be cautious and wait.”

It will be a great opportunity for Marc Cucurella to reclaim his position in his natural left-back position after being named in Chelsea’s last match.

Chelsea’s long list of injuries are an increasing problem

More than eight players in the current Chelsea squad are sidelined with respective injuries and fresh injuries have been cropping up every week.

Midfielder Conor Gallagher who has been one of the standout performers for the Blues, is currently struggling with a virus and has been absent due to illness.

Gallagher will join Levi Colwill who’s currently undergoing a rehabilitation programme for a toe injury and Ben Chilwell on the sidelines, and could miss the tie against Newcastle United.

Players like Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana, Reece James and Lesly Ugochukwu still remain out and continue with their respective rehabilitation.

On a positive note, Carney Chukwuemeka and Benoit Badiashile have joined partial team training after their respective injuries and will be back before the quarter-final tie against Leicester City in the FA Cup.
