Bayern Munich monitoring former Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for potential interim role
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are reportedly doubtful current manager Thomas Tuchel is the right man for the job. To that tune, the clubโs hierarchy is keeping tabs on former Manchester United player and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
This is as per reports from journalist Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany. His reports add that the Bavarians could make the decision before the season ends.
Having won the Bundesliga in each of the last 11 seasons, Bayern Munich currently find themselves a distance from top spot. They are eight points adrift of leaders Bayer Leverkusen, to whom they also lost 3-0 earlier this month. Defeats against Lazio (1-0) in the Champions League and VfL Bochum (3-2) in the league have been their two results since.
The club have been ruthless with their managerial recruitment in recent times. Former manager Julian Nagelsmann faced similar scrutiny despite doing reasonably well. He was relieved of his duties over doubts whether he could win the treble while his team was still competing on all fronts. It was a shocking revelation of how the club is hungry for success at all costs.
Now, Thomas Tuchel now finds himself in a similar conundrum. He took over from his predecessor back in March and had a 9-3-7 record in 19 games to finish the 2022-23 campaign. So far this season, Bayern Munich have a 22-3-7 record, but they have already lost four games in the league. That is just one lesser than the whole of last season.
Despite onboarding Harry Kane to bolster the squad, Tuchelโs tenure seems to be coming to an abrupt end. The Bavarian giants have their target in sight, too. Enter: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer was in charge of Manchester United between 2018-21 and oversaw 168 games. He won 91 of those, drawing 37 and losing 40, and ending up with a winning percentage of 54.17. The Red Devils finished as runners-up in the Europa League in the 2020-21 season under the Norwegian. While the end of his tenure with the club was rough, the team have not played fluid attacking football since.
Being a former striker himself, Solskjaer had Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial firing on all cylinders. He would have ample talent to work with at Bayern. However, it remains to be seen whether this gathers any momentum in the next couple of weeks.
